Plug Inn: case study and site analysis

January 7, 2015

In the second phase of the Plug Inn project, we completed the site analysis of the possible locations for the project. We made the final decision on which three sites we will study more closely, and we also decided which one of these three sites was the most suitable for actually building the Plug Inn module house.

The site that was chosen as the top priority is situated just beside a bus stop in Ulleråker. The site is right next to a future main route through the area, and there are fine possibilities to pre-cultivate and make manifest this main passage with smart new development. There is also good access with public transport, and there are conncetions in the vicinity to the water and sewage networks.

Our top priority site is just beside a bus stop on the street "Bernhard Jacobowskys väg" in Ulleråker.

The two other sites that was chosen for more careful analysis within this project was another site in Ulleråker and also a site in Bäcklösa. The site in Ulleråker is a parking lot very close to the first site discussed above. The site in Bäcklösa is an empty field that is planned for totally new development.

The second site in Ulleråker is a parking lot, which means that a Plugg Inn structure could be developed without extensive earthworks. There is a cemetary and a preschool close to the site.

A central part of phase 2 was also to produce a list of parameters to check against sites that are considered for a Plug Inn establishment. Some examples of parameter questions:

  • Zoning plan questions: is the zoning plan made up in a way that is suitable for a Plug Inn project?
  • Economical questions: the site should not be expensive to use for this kind of project. For example, there should not be any need for an expensive sanitation of pollution and such.
  • Sustainability questions: Access to public transportation; possibility to integrate with existing cultural and natural values on site.
  • City development support: For example, is the site favorable for a development that introduces new elements into the urban structure?

The site in Bäcklösa is right beside a newly built main road leading up to Gottsunda. The area is just a field today, but is planned for extensive new city development in the near future.
